The Department of Genetics of Prokaryotes at the Faculty of Biology conducts research in the field of bacterial biotechnology, molecular genetics and applied microbiology with the focus of research on the characterisation of global gene regulation and metabolic pathways, genome-wide expression analysis with DNA microarrays, synthetic and systems biology of industrially relevant bacteria as well as white biotechnology with a focus on rational strain development for the sustainable production of valuable compounds.

Your Tasks
Research tasks (100 %):
  • research focusing on carbohydrate production with bacteria
  • metabolic engineering for the overproduction of industrially relevant carbohydrates
  • CRISPR, CRISPRi and heterologous gene expression in bacteria
  • bioprocess development for carbohydrate production

Employment is conductive to scientific qualification.

Your Profile
We expect
  • completed relevant scientific university studies (e. g. Master or Diploma) in biotechnology, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or any related field
  • relevant experience in standard molecular biology techniques
  • knowledge and experience in metabolic/genetic engineering of bacteria, e. g. Corynebacterium etc.
  • knowledge and experience with cultivation of bacteria, e. g. Corynebacterium etc.
  • proficient handling of common office and laboratory software
  • very good written and spoken German and/or English language skills
  • independent, self-reliant and dedicated style of work
  • interest in the application of bioinformatics tools
  • strong organizational and coordination skills
  • cooperative and team-oriented workstyle
  • high motivation

Preferred experience and skills
  • knowledge in the field of HPLC analysis
